 | Koru Cable Glovelets
Cable Glovelets are what Kiwis call them. We call them balm for aching forearms. Consisting of a knitted tube with a worked thumbhole, made from 40% Possum, 50% Merino Lamb’s Wool, and 10% Silk, these warm and support the forearms while leaving nimble fingers free rein to do their stuff. We brought possum glovelets in from New Zealand because a friend of ours had arthritis and found her pleasure in knitting was being seriously stifled by the aches and pains which were building up in her wrists. Now she tells us, she wouldn’t knit without them. She still has the arthritis, but wearing the glovelets takes the edge off. Oh, and they are light to the touch, very light ! So she hardly knows they are there. We sold our entire stock on the first day.

|  | Koru 'Classic' Beanie
The Kiwis call it ‘a Beanie’, a title derived from ‘Bean’, Scots Gaelic for the head. North Americans call it ‘a Watchman’s Cap’. The British simply call it ‘a Woolly Hat’. Some say that the South Americans developed this most practical of garments, others that it was nomads from Central Asia. Bald men have a particularly soft spot for it.
Whatever you call it, and whoever invented it, it has been keeping the chill and frostbite away for thousands of years; almost since the birth of knitting.

By the way, a Victorian word for the head was ‘the Noggin’. So you might have ended up giving your loved one a gift of ‘a Nogginie’. Try explaining that to them!

Who doesn’t need a decent pair of gloves, and these Koru possum gloves are among the best you’ll ever wear. Made from the same 40% Possum, 50% Merino Lamb’s Wool, and 10% Silk mix that Koru apply across their whole range, these gloves are the perfect answer to a chilly day. From the first morning we first started selling them, customers were coming up to us with possum gloves already in their pockets and bags. We wondered where we they were getting them. It turned out that many of the possum gloves they carried were years old; souvenirs of happy times in New Zealand; gifts from Down Under. What our customers were looking for was a place to buy more, for family and for friends. Interestingly, despite their lightness and softness, most of the possum gloves were in great condition after six, sometimes seven years of daily wear. One lady even admitted to gardening in hers - something we don’t necessarily recommend. She bought another two pairs - as she said - for best.

|  | Koru Possum Socks
There is a myth going about that you don’t need to wash possum socks. Well, sorry to disappoint, but you do. The myth arose among Kiwi walkers and climbers who noticed that, after a day’s heavy haul up the mountainside, their feet still felt clean, and they lacked that certain odour. You know what we mean. Possum socks could be worn for much longer than their pure wool or synthetic equivalents. In reality, the difference arises from the fact that possum fibre doesn’t absorb moisture in the way lamb’s wool does, and because it encompasses the wool which is providing the mix with its skeleton, what moisture there is has a hard time getting through - hence the myth. Of course, it helps that they are made from the same 40% Possum, 50% Merino Lamb’s Wool, and 10% Silk mix as our other garments. They are available in four colours. Having your feet feel good after a twelve hour climb, or a day’s forced march (soldiers like them too) tends to leave one wondering how they do it. And who doesn’t like a good myth.
