Each ball of yarn weighs 50gms (1.76 oz) and is a generous 133 metres (144 yards) in length. The strands which make up the yarn are soft and pliant, appearing slightly downy (or fuzzy) to the eye. This down (or fuzz) is the visible evidence of the extraordinarily fine possum fibre which gives the yarn its characteristics and which, because of its short staple, has to be supported by a longer fibre - in this case - merino lambswool.
Although Possum Plus is sold as a Double Knit (DK), its natural loft means that it can be just as successfully knitted as an Aran. After the garment's initial wash, the yarn will relax and the possum fibres will take up the spaces left by the Aran technique.
Possum Plus is designed as a hand knitting yarn. However, when used on a machine, it produces a knit which is dense and very soft. Despite its softness, pattern details (e.g. cables) are well defined to the eye.
Note 1: We want you to enjoy the garment you have knitted from Possum Plus yarn well into the future. To maintain the qualities of Possum Plus we recommend that you hand wash the finished garment. If you choose to use a washing machine, please ensure that you use the machine's most delicate program. Possum based garments must never be washed at temperatures higher than 30°C. We accept no responsibility for any problems arising from the machine washing of garments.
Note 2: We prefer our products to remain as natural as possible. Therefore, the lambswool merino carrier in this yarn has not been subjected to the Superwash process. This means that the merino will felt if washed at high temperatures.
